Fiordifrutta
Fiordifrutta has consistently been ranked as one of the top three amateur cycling teams in the country. The United States Cycling Federation has a ranking system based on results from National Racing Calendar competitions and Fiordifrutta is usually ranked ahead of many professional squads. Consisting of thirteen Category 1 riders, the team had twenty-nine wins in the 2006 season and dozens of top three finishes in races throughout the United States. Although the team is primarily based in New England, 2006 saw its riders compete in more than twenty states. Fiordifrutta riders have held more than ten National Championship titles, and in 2006 Jamey Driscoll finished 4th at the under-23 Cyclocross Championships. 2005 saw team rider Matt White finish 5th in the Under 23 National Criterium Championships. In 2004, Mike Dietrich and Jon Hamblen finished 4th and 6th at the Elite National Road Race Championships in Redlands, CA>. In 2003, Mike Dietrich finished 8th at the Elite National Road Race Championships in Seven Springs, PA, and Oliver Stiler-Cote was 5th at the Under 23 National Road Race Championships. Fiordifrutta has always focused on the development of younger cyclists. Team riders Jamey Driscoll, Shawn Milne, Johs Huseby, Matt White, and Michael Cody have represented the US at the World Cycling Championships. Team riders who have moved on to careers in professional cycling include: Shawn Milne (Navigators), Justin Spinelli (Saeco, Navigators), Mike Jones ( Healthnet), Jonathan Page (Colavita), Mike Dietrich (Kodak/Sierra Nevada), Phil Wong (Jittery Joes), Jon Hamblen (Navigators, Nerac.com), Dan Timmerman (Kodak/Sierra Nevada), Michael Cody (Jelly Belly) and Matt Svatek (Sportsbook, Sharper Image/Mathis Brothers). Team riders who have ridden for the US National Team in Europe include: Oliver Stiler-Cote, Darby Thomas, Robbie Dapice, Donny Lopez, and Shawn Milne. The team competes at up to 100 spectator events a year from February through December, generating publicity and media coverage for its sponsors. Fiordifrutta is an Italian producer of organic fruit spreads and honeys. Unlike many road cycling teams, Fiordifrutta races a full cyclocross season, guaranteeing publicity in the fall months. The team is utilized by many of its equipment sponsors to test
new technology since the team includes Cannondale engineers Chris
Peck and Curt Davis.
