October 27, 2008Josh Dillon writes in with a race report from Gloucester, MA and you can see a great pic on cyclingnews.com Gloucester Grand Prix (UCI C2) - NACT #3 &4, NECCS #3&4 It doesn't get much better than New England in the fall. We were treated to cloudless skies and high 60's for both days of the Gloucester Grand Prix this past Columbus day weekend. This made for a beautiful drive through the heart of northern N.E. on the way to a gorgeous ocean side course on Cape Ann, MA. It also made for a couple of great days to ride my Cannondale against some of the best in the country. Saturday threw a little bad luck my way with a pinch flat quite a long ways from the pit on just the 2nd lap of the race. After a long jog to the pit I still put in a solid effort to make the race a good training day, which for me is the primary focus of the cross season. In hind sight, I wish I had done the same thing on Sunday instead of participating in the negative racing that took place for 10th place (ie the last UCI point on the line for the day). As it turns out I finished 1 place out of the points anyway, and I didn't put in as high quality of an effort as I would have liked. The other good thing about Saturday's pinch flat was that I was able to take in Driscoll's monster attack on Trebon from across the course. The gap was so big that I was confused at first glance, but then realized he was killing it of course. Unfortunately, it didn't last but he still pulled off a couple of terrific rides on the weekend and holds a firm grip on the series lead. Toby Marzot also had a terrific ride on Saturday to take the U23 win. With his 3rd place ride on Sunday, he now sits tied for 2nd in the series just 10 pts out of first.
